Judd Legum’s campaign for Delegate is about bringing new energy and fresh thinking to Maryland’s legislature. Judd is running to create jobs, expand educational opportunities, restore fiscal responsibility and revitalize our precious natural resources.
Currently, Judd is an attorney at a family-owned law firm in Annapolis, which his father Alan founded over 35 years ago. Service is a priority for Judd: he has volunteered as a pro-bono representative and advocate for dozens of low-income area families.
Judd is a member of the Anne Arundel County Bar Association, the Ward One Residents Association and the District 30 Democratic Club. He recently served on the City of Annapolis Transition Team as the chair of the Market House and City Dock Committee.
Judd has also been appointed to represent Annapolis on the Severn River Commission, providing advice to the city and county on how to restore one of the Bay’s dirtiest rivers.
Growing up in Annapolis Roads and Eastport, Judd attended the Key School in Hillsmere. He played softball at PAL park, entered local tennis tournaments at Anne Arundel Community College, waited tables at Steamboat Landing in Galesville and liked to see the $1 shows at the old Eastport Cinemas.
As an avid camper and canoeist, Judd developed a deep appreciation for Maryland’s natural environment.
He went on to receive his B.A. in Public Policy Analysis from Pomona College in Claremont, California and his J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. As a college student, Judd interned for Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and the Maryland Democratic Party.
Judd has also served as the Research Director at the Center for American Progress, a leading public policy think tank, where he was an innovator in applying modern communication techniques to promote and advance policy. He founded the organization’s popular blog, edited a daily e-newsletter and regularly appeared on national television and radio programs.
Judd held the same position with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, managing a team of 15 responsible for the campaign’s policy and political research.
A fifth generation Annapolitan, Judd’s great-great-grandparents opened a general merchandise store on West Street in Annapolis around 1900. Judd lives downtown, around the corner from where the store was located, with his wife Roshini.
