The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County, one of Maryland’s most prominent Republican organizations, has launched an outrageous attack on President Barack Obama. The website currently features a letter from Joyce E. Thoman, the organization’s President, comparing Barack Obama to Hitler. An excerpt:
Dear Friends:
Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the “blitzkrieg” method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities – quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!
We too CAN fight back. Contact everyone you know. Start a blitzkrieg of our own. Shut down the Capitol switchboards and the White House switchboards! Say NO to the Obamination of Obama Care!
The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County, which holds a weekly breakfast, is regularly visited and praised by Maryland’s Republican leadership. When former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R) was a Member of Congress he praised the organization of floor of the House of Representatives:
Mr. EHRLICH. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to pay tribute to an organization in my district celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County was formed in 1937 as the Federation of Republican Women of Anne Arundel County. Its founder was Edna Payne of Annapolis…Mr. Speaker, this organization is a living example of the spirit of citizenship envisioned by the founders of this great Nation. Political and charitable participation are the duties of everyone in a true democracy. The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County regularly prove that actions speak louder than words. I want to congratulate them on reaching this 60th anniversary milestone.
It’s time for Bob Ehrlich and the rest of Maryland’s Republican Party to speak up and make it clear that the group’s offensive rhetoric about President Obama is unacceptable.

are you OUT OF YOUR MINDS?!?! Propagating this wacko stuff is fueling hatred and murder in this country. You need to act more responsibly. If you disagree with the policies of the current administration, fine. State your better ideas, and work toward those goals. Raising the specter of Hitler is racist, its inflammatory and ridiculous. Furthermore, it diminishes the horrors of the holocaust to compare current fiscal policy to the heinous crimes of Hitler.
The president of the United States is NOTHING like Hitler your morons. Get a grip. I know you can’t stand that you lost so many elections and lost all power in the government and even less, that a black man is in the white house, but if you want the Republican party to rise from the ashes, HATRED, LIES and RACISM is not the way you are going to make it happen.
This kind of inflammatory rhetoric needs to stop. No Christian should want to foster hatred and bigotry the way this letter does. Shame on you all!!!
If you have any intellect at all, please read, “Toxic to Democracy
Conspiracy Theories, Demonization, & Scapegoating” by Chip Berlet for a clear analysis of this type of rhetoric and the damage it does.

“Right-wing pundits demonize scapegoated groups and individuals in our society, implying that it is urgent to stop them from wrecking the nation. Some angry people in the audience already believe conspiracy theories in which the same scapegoats are portrayed as subversive, destructive, or evil. Add in aggressive apocalyptic ideas that suggest time is running out and quick action mandatory and you have a perfect storm of mobilized resentment threatening to rain bigotry and violence across the United States.”

I would like to express my profound disappointment at this despicable representation of the republican party. For a woman in a social leadership role to espouse such hate and anger suggests a severe case of mental, intellectual and utero collapse. I expect it from the usual suspects, but from a charm-schooled social climber…oh, the horror…

I would be HIGHLY disappointed in ANY member of the Republican Party who fails to defend Joyce in the face of this liberal onslaught. I would work to ruin the political career of any member of the GOP who bends to this pressure.
Joyce and her husband have been tireless advocates of liberty and truth for Marylanders and all Americans since Judd Legum was a baby. She probably knows more about Hitler and the blitzkrieg than Legum or anyone writing for HuffPo will ever know.
Her husband, Chuck, is a selfless, highly decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Joyce is known throughout the GOP by her calls to action and her in-depth knowledge of state and national political history. The Thomann’s are national treasures who have earned the highest respect from their fellow Marylanders.
Now, I have learned that if Joyce Thomann says we need to employ the blitzkrieg tactics that have made both Hitler and the Obama Democrats so successful in their early days in laying waste to vast swaths of land, wealth and people then I am inclined to agree.

What is wrong with you people. Ask any Canadian directly if they would perfer the US health care system as it is now to what we have here. You will hear a resounding NO!!
Get your facts straight. For the first time in your recent history you have a President that is listening to the people. We next door are proud of those of you who elected him into office. I am frightened to think what would happened if McCain and Palin were elected.
I wish your country only the best…for all its citizens.

It is hatred to compare him to last century’s greatest monster (and I’m being kind in that assessment) just because he is the man on top for a crisis that came to a head during the LAST president’s tenure, let’s not forget.
How rich to blame Obama for the sins of the Bushies. How kind to compare him to Hitler.

I think the comparison to Hitler is appalling. Adolf Hitler was proud to be German and he professed love for his country. His destruction was focused on Eastern & Western Europe and the individuals in his country he perceived at fault for Versailles. Obama is ashamed of his country and its traditions. Barrack is bent on destruction within because he loves other nations. Barrack has no pride or respect for WWII heroes but instead he respects the Weather Underground and other individuals inside our nation that are bent on its destruction. A better comparison would be Charlie Manson. Barrack Obama is succeeding HELTER SKELTER

As I have written on my personal Face Book page, “Joyce Thomann is, perhaps, the most prolific writer I know. …and everything she writes is a call to action!” Although, many of your readers may find her analogies offensive, I would argue there is no “Godwin’s Law” for Sun Tzu, von Clausewitz or the Powell Doctrine of overwhelming force due to the fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats, in general, posses the depth of knowledge to discuss or invoke them with any consequence.
Joyce wrote with analogies based on the knowledge that she knew. I, however, assert the three authors cited above have relevancy to political warfare, which I contend we are currently heavily embroiled in — even down to the district level — and apply equally to Ms. Thomann’s writing.
While these warrior / philosophers could have, perhaps, more accurately described Ms. Thomann’s positions, the discussion of their works and their practical applications to politics wouldn’t have raised the emotional temperature in either Democrats or Republicans to the level that she has done. She has, once again, given us all a call to action and many on both sides of the aisle have responded.
Ms. Thomann uses the term “blitzkrieg” in describing the Obama administration. While the outcomes of this tactic in our current time are (or will be) entirely different from those in the 1940s, the use of that term to describe the speed and rapidity in which the Obama administration is leading us down a road of quasi-socialism with added government intervention (which I personally find an anathema to my own political sensibilities) is not completely without merit. Her use of the same term to address Republicans and urge them to call the switchboards, I feel, is inaccurate. What I believe she is describing is a practical, political application of some aspects of the Powell Doctrine of overwhelming force (see http://townhall.com/columnists/CharlesKrauthammer/2001/04/20/the_powell_doctrine ).
This web site does not afford me enough space to clearly articulate my own personal experiences at the local level. Suffice it to say I live a “blue” state and in a decidedly Democrat-leaning county. Yet, we have a Republican county executive, a Republican state senator from my district and three out of three Republican delegates for the district. I wouldn’t rule out the Republican Party as completely “dead” at this juncture.
If you were personally offended by Ms. Thomann’s evocation, as a member of RWAAC, I can assure you that was not her intent. But one thing is for sure. Once again:
SHE GOT EVERYONE’S ATTENTION!

To All,
OK boys and girls, now I’m pissed!!!
I put up a comment on “The Huffington Post” web site regarding Joyce’s letter. Shortly thereafter, another person who identified him or herself as “Professor73″ posted a complimentary reply, which said:
“Good post. I am amazed the Huffington sensors let it through. …”
Now, a few hours later, this reply from “Professor73″ has disappeared.
I put up another reply to my own post, which said:
“What, pray tell, happened to the reply from Professor 73? Are the censors or sensors busy at work?”
That one NEVER got posted.
Neither of these replies used ANY abusive language or in any way was outside of the boundaries of what the FCC refers to as “community standards.” So much for freedom of speech on “The Huffington Post” web site.
What I have learned from this exercise is there is more freedom of speech on the RWAAC web site than there is on “The Huffington Post” web site.

The sad part of all this is, despite a temptation to say let’s just outlaw and ban the Republican Party as an anti-American group of radicals who represent a threat to the National Security and Constitution, we actually do need a Republican minority. As difficult as it was to spit that out, the Nation was built on multiple political parties and has dwindled down to two primary parties for the past century. In my opinion that is part of the present day problem. Neither of the two present day parties who run this Nation have the guts to be self accountable and have juried rigged the system. But to end up with a single political monopoly is dangerous for the American political system. With the obvious if not humorous self destruction of the Republican Party while tempting to applaud, it is a sign that our political system is failing and that again what is needed is a multiple political party system.

All these emotions and very few respond with thoughtful replies. One respondent wrote that no one has defended the POTUS regarding, “Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!”
I do not blame Obama for this and it represents true ignorance for anyone to blame Obama. It is just as ignorant to blame Bush. What has destroyed the economy is blatant greed. Greed left uncontrolled by the easing of laws passed by both parties.
So why don’t we stop pointing fingers and work together? Why don’t we all accept a little responsibility. Did not everyone one of you that owns property profit over the last decade? Didn’t your IRA’s and 401K’s do pretty well until 9/11?
We all share responsibility. We should all try to work together to solve our problems and stop being so damn greedy!

My grandfather was killed in a concentration camp by hitler’s blitzkrieg-we are not jewish and everything my family owned was destroyed. How could you compare what Hitler did to what Obama is trying to save. Your lack of understanding and compassion to people who are survivors is just unbelievable. May you never know the reality of what Hitler did. Try compassion and understanding it might attract people to your party.

I hope people can see from all of the comments here how hate speech (like this article) triggers more and more hatred like an endless cycle that just keeps snowballing until it ends up in physical violence as we have all seen with the Tiller murder.
You can see the hatred in the comments posted as a direct link to the hatred posted in the article on both sides no less.
Thank goodness the website has removed this article and refused to endorse its content.
For now sensible thinking has prevailed but will it next time?
