Is “the Old Line State” a reference to the Mason Dixon Line? Is it pride in being South of that line? Where did Maryland’s nickname come from?
I think I can guess where the idea about “New Line” came from. It’s that “Change” thing going around now.

“The Old Line” is actually related to a group of Marylanders who fought in the Revolutionary War.
